We present a wide array of art projects and exhibitions by artists in many disciplines. Our mission is to promote contemporary art cross-culturally for private and public sectors alike. We also actively encourage a setting to collaborate with other independent curators, galleries, museums, private institutions, and corporate groups.
ABOUT EXHIBITION
THE ONE PIECE OF ART
GOLDEN WALKING MAN
LEE SANG WON / 이상원
MARCH 17, FRI- APRIL16, SUN, 2023
THE ONE PIECE OF ART, The sixth project introduces "GOLDEN WALKING MAN," a new three-dimensional work by artist LEE SANG WON, well-known for portraying ordinary modern people's lives in familiar parks, seas, and cities.
The artist observes the lives of ordinary people. He tries to find specific patterns that repeat in them. Most of the stories in the paintings are constructed and drawn through these observations and conflicting ways. The landscape painting of a crowd moving or gathering with a specific purpose in a particular place shows the artist's various perspectives that modern people of the same age look at and think about.
Through various media for many years, the 'WALKING MAN' series captures modern people's daily encounters and simplifies them into animations to create a human character as a motif. It has a meaning as a starting point for expanding the artist's work in the future, but it is also a project that shows the possibility of new challenges that have yet to be produced.
Since around 2008, he has worked in various cities in Korea and France, New Zealand, and China. In search of common or sympathetic social phenomena in different cultures, he has expressed and produced them through various media such as watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, and media art. Since then, it has been expanded to include people taking pictures in parks or riding bicycles, standing in long lines, gathering in groups of two or three, walking on the street, and encountering various daily activities.
In 2010, "THE STREET 2010", created as an animation drawing of people on the streets of Insa-dong, became the basis for starting the Walking Man series. Over the next few years, he actively participated in various exhibitions and projects, such as public art and media festivals. During the artist residency at the Youngeun Museum of Art in 2021, I first tried a three-dimensional work with a pottery technique using clay as a new work, and it was cast and made "GOLDEN WALKING MAN."
"GOLDEN WALKING MAN," presented for the first time this time, is a three-dimensional work that simplifies the Walking shape with the motif of the character human (人) and consists of 12 pieces. Pure gold (24K) is one of the various materials used to create the 'WALKING MAN' series. This exhibition is also in the process of multiple experiments. The artist will continue to show that he focuses on the contemplation process of finding, experimenting, and visualizing a theme rather than showing various conceptual or formally completed works.
